About Me
I’m Sophie, a local psychologist who believes in keeping things real.
My work is down-to-earth, strengths-based, trauma-informed and neuro-affirming. Therapy with me isn’t about rushing change or focusing on what’s “wrong.” It’s about connection, understanding what’s shaped you, and making sense of patterns in a way that feels safe, respectful, and genuinely useful.
My Background
After completing my undergraduate degree in 2014, I began working as a psychologist in government and non-government services supporting children and families who had experienced trauma. After having children of my own, I moved into private practice, working mainly with adult survivors of trauma, and discovered a strong interest in neurodivergence and neuropsychological assessment.
In 2024, I completed further postgraduate study in clinical psychology focused on refining my assessment skills and deepening my understanding of neurodivergence. Today, I work with both children and adults in private practice in Kiama.
My Approach to Assessment
I use assessments to build a deep understanding of you or your child. I look at the full picture so we can make sense of things together. I aim to keep the process clear, transparent, and strengths-focused. My reports are thorough but practical, with recommendations that translate into real-life support at home, school, and work.
My Approach in Therapy
In therapy, I draw on my extensive experience with evidence-based approaches, including CBT, EMDR, TF-CBT, PCIT, and attachment-based models.
With children, I’m playful, creative, and aim to put connection first. With teens, I prioritise trust, authenticity, and respect and, with adults, my style is warm, and collaborative. I like working alongside people, making sense of things together, with honesty, reflection, and (importantly) a healthy dose of humour!
